The last Family Day of our Family Association
On July 11th and 12th, 2015, at Lueschen's in Stenum, Germany, our Family Association celebrated its fifth Family Day in a 20 year history.
During the General Meeting our association elected a new governing board. Gerold Ohlenbusch from Bardenfleth assumed the office of President from Hartwig Ohlenbusch, and Waltraud Vogel, born Ohlebusch, was entrusted with the office of the treasurer, which had previously been run by Ernst Ohlebusch. Several awards were handed out to Ernst, Hartwig, and Cord.
After a common lunch, with a slide show and a giant family tree provided by Frank, we took a group photo in the garden. Then we visited our Ancestral Farm in Bookholzberg, where the owner Gerd Hanken told us about the workings of the farm.
The day ended at Lueschen's with afternoon coffee and the musical accompaniment of the Stedinger Shanty choir. Each participant received as a present a bottle of "Oldebusch beer" prepared by Frank Jeger Ohlenbusch.
On the second day of our meeting, 32 participants undertook a joint excursion to the community of Bad Zwischenahn. An expert guide led us through the popular open-air museum, which included the so-called "Ammerlänner Buurnhuus" and a large windmill. In this illustrative way, we were introduced to part of the everyday life of our ancestors.
After an extensive lunch together at the shore of the Zwischenahner Sea, we embarked on a ferry to Rostrup. After a short hike we reached the famous "Park of the Gardens". Apart from the aesthetic enjoyment of the interestingly designed park, one could get valuable suggestions from the many theme parks. After the final return by ship we were able to take home many beautiful impressions.
